Pastor's Column for 1/29/17

Sunday, January 29, 2017

Dear Friends,

Today we kick off our annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week.  This year, however, brings with it a unique character.  After 75 years SJA School will close, merge with two other schools, and then reopen under a new name for the 2017-18 school year.  We enter into this week grateful from where we’ve been: our history; our tradition; our alumni. We thank God for, and acknowledge the parents, teachers, and other partners of our education apostolate for the last 75 years.

We also look forward to the future and thank God for where we’re going.  Together we are active participants, co-operators, with God as we create new history; new traditions; new alumni. We ask God to continue to send us parents, teachers and other partners so we can continue our education apostolate for another 75, or more, years.

We’ll have an opportunity as a community to celebrate our past in the coming months. In the meantime, I’d like to invite current, new and prospective school families to tour the school building this Sunday from 12-2pm. Maureen DePriest, President of the City Schools, Dr. Cathy Johns, Director of Curriculum, the three pastors, and members of the Parent Advisory Committee will all be present to give information about the new school; tour the building; and answer questions. The name of the new school will be revealed at 1pm in the gym.

Please remember to check out www.archstl.org/renaissance for more information. Let’s pray for these efforts and for our participation and cooperation with our neighbors, and with our God, in this new endeavor.

Know that you are loved dearly and prayed for daily.

Peace and prayers for you,
