Dear Friends,

First, an update on South City Catholic Academy.  As of today, Monday, July 24th the enrollment is 230 students, plus another 25 or so in the Learning Center. We are so excited to be partnering with Our Lady of Sorrows parish and the Archdiocese to provide this excellent opportunity for the children of our parishes and the neighborhood. The work being done in the building is moving right along.  We are on schedule to be finished by the first day of school: new drop ceilings and LED lights; reconfigured walls; new playground and landscaping; new STEM lab on the third floor; new paint, etc. We will be having an Open House sometime after the first day of school so the parish can see the “new” school. (A word also about the air conditioner in the gym: we are in the process of bidding and scheduling the replacement of those units. They are shot: they need to be replaced. We’ll be working with the archdiocese to make that happen. I’ll keep you posted.) And finally, in regards to South City Catholic Academy: many have asked about my part in the new school. I’ll be serving in a few different roles: a member of the Board of the Directors and the ‘pastor designate’. I’ll be present every day; teaching religions classes; celebrating sacraments; assisting the principal where and when needed, etc. Whatever I can do to help, that’s where I’ll be.

Continue your prayers for South City Catholic Academy- teachers, staff and administration. And our students and their families! Our Lady of Sorrows- pray for us! St. Joan of Arc- pray for us!

Secondly, I am so pleased to announce the kick off of our new Young Adult Apostolate: VISIONS. St. Joan of Arc received VISIONS from the Lord to be of service to her country and her Church. She was committed to a VISION of Peace, Justice and Freedom. She had a VISION for the Church in her country built on prayer and commitment to the Gospel. It is in this spirit that we invite the young people of the St. Joan of Arc parish community to be a part of VISIONS: A young adult group. We’ll be having a BBQ following 4:30 pm mass on Saturday, August 12th in area behind church, at the back entrance of the rectory. As our church community continues to engage and minister to young adults and families, we are looking for new ways to bridge the gap between the youth and our senior parishioners. VISIONS is looking for young, enthusiastic parishioners and their families, between the ages of 18 and 40, who are looking for a way to get involved within the church community. Parishioners of all ages are welcome to attend the BBQ and learn more about our group!" More details to come in next week’s bulletin.

Know that you are loved dearly and prayed for daily.

Peace and prayers for you.

Fr. Craig
